jESC 2015: Ukraine – Anna Trincher – Pochny z sebe

Hi,

jesc2015logo

It’s the continuation – as well as the end – of my opinion regarding the 17 competing entries from the 17 participating countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria (officially, though, the host will be Bulgaria as a whole. Sofia is only the location of the venue)

We’re coming down to the last entry of this jESC edition and it’s coming from Ukraine. For this occasion, they have sent a anti-war pop-rock entry titled “Pochny z sebe” (translation: “Start with yourself”) which will be sung by Anna Trincher who also wrote the song (and she is no stranger to competition shows, having even been in the ukrainian version of “The Voice Kids”. She also had been in the Ukrainian jESC NF last year… without much sucess). A more extensive biography of the participant can be seen on this link: http://www.junioreurovision.tv/page/participant-profile?song=33333

Now to the opinion of the song: Musically, it’s a nice entry with a dark element within the arrangements – and it has, without a doubt, some of the best lyrics in this year’s edition. However, I don’t think it’s as marvelous as many jESC fans believe and I could compare that opinion of mine with Portugal‘s ESC 2015 entry (“Há um mar que nos separa”, Leonor Andrade) – eventhough “Pochny z sebe” is much superior to the song I mentioned in terms of production, it doesn’t connect me at all (also meaning: there’s nothing extra special in it). Still, there’s a chance this could do well with the right staging and the right vocal performance…

So that’s it. On Saturday, 21th November 2015, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 will start, live in SofiaBulgaria. May the best entry win (hoping some of my top-6 (Slovenia, Malta, Ireland, The Netherlands, Belarus and Australia) countries this year will do well)

Thank you,
