jESC 2015: Slovenia – Lina Kuduzović – Prva ljubezen

Hi,

jesc2015logo

It’s the continuation of my opinion regarding the 17 competing entries from the 17 participating countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria (officially, though, the host will be Bulgaria as a whole. Sofia is only the location of the venue)

The penulitimate entry in jESC 2015 – remembering we still don’t have the official running order, so everything is done alphabetically – comes from Slovenia. Unlike last year, this year’s mid-tempo ballad is less on the indie side and more into pop – and it’s about the chronicles of a girl who experiences her very first love relationship. With the title “Prva ljubezen” (translation: “First love”), the song will be sung in slovene and english by Lina Kuduzović who became known after winning the 2010 season of the talent show “Slovenia Got Talent” and becoming a finalist in the 2014 season of the talent show “Die grössten Schweizer Talente”. She co-wrote the lyrics with her mother Sebina and… Maraaya (Raay and Marjetka Vovk), who also co-wrote the entry’s music and even represented the country in ESC 2015 with “Here for you” – they were equally responsible for last year’s jESC entry (Ula Ložar, “Nisi sam (Your light)”). A more extensive biography of the participant can be seen on this link: http://www.junioreurovision.tv/page/participant-profile?song=33323

Now to the opinion of the song: My biggest favourite this year, it just ticks all my buttons + it’s sublime in every aspect – from its well-constructed melody to its meaningful lyrics and from the arrangements’ high-class quality to the singer’s sincere vocal portrayal… overall, Maraaya have brilliantly done it again. I don’t know if this will do pretty well, but I sure hope it gets a great placing – provided there’s a great performance from Lina‘s part (well, she’s usually a great vocalist and I hope she’ll be on her best next week – for me, the main concern for her and the slovenian delegation at the moment will be the visuals)

And we’re almost coming to end of my look at this year’s jESC entries – Ukraine is the last country to have an opinion of mine…

Thank you,
