jESC 2015: Malta – Destiny Chukunyere – Not my soul

Hi,

jesc2015logo

It’s the continuation of my opinion regarding the 17 competing entries from the 17 participating countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, which will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria (officially, though, the host will be Bulgaria as a whole. Sofia is only the location of the venue)

Malta, last year’s hosting country, is coming up next with a empowering catchy retro-R’n’B/soul uptempo track titled “Not my soul” and it’s going to be sung in english (of course) by a fiercy person that co-wrote the entry: Destiny Chukunyere. Among the writers of the song, there’s the composer Elton Zarb and the lyricist Matt Muxu Mercieca – both of them wrote the maltese jESC entries for these last 2 years + they also wrote the maltese ESC 2015 entry (“Warrior”, Amber). A more extensive biography of the participant can be seen on this link: http://www.junioreurovision.tv/page/participant-profile?song=33253

Now to the opinion of the song: I’m usually a sucker for retro-flavoured entries and this one is no exception – sure it’s on the cutesy side, but there’s also some fierceness throughout the music’s addictiveness, the simple yet thoughtfull lyrics and the appealing arrangements. And that’s what makes it so awesome for an uptempo entry of its calibre. Destiny has proved she’s a great singer, but now everything depends on the visual performance…

The next country to have an opinion from me pretty shortly is Montenegro. Watch out for it…

Thank you,
