jESC 2014: The Netherlands – Julia – Around

It’s the continuation of my opinion regarding the 16 competing entries from the 16 participating countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014, which will be held in Marsa, Malta (officially, though, the host will be Malta as a whole. Marsa is only the location of the venue)

We’re moving “round and around and around” with The Netherlands next (the second of the only two countries who have participated in all jESC edition thus far) as the song is titled… “Around”, a dance-pop entry which will be sung in dutch and english by the artist who made the song: Julia (van Bergen). The singer also got some help with the lyrics and the music from Robert Dorn and Joost Griffioen. A more extensive biography of the participant can be seen on this link:

Now to the opinion of the song: Many have compared it with the ESC 2012 winning entry (Sweden, Loreen, “Euphoria”), eventhough they are quite different music-wise. It’s a perfectly concieved dance-pop with all the nuances that make it reach a whole different level, while the lyrics about a girl who’s love with someone that never had the initiative of doing it so are really clever (in a way, the chorus is really catchy on both sides and it doesn’t get out of your head that easily). Looking at her NF performances, I think she still needs to work on her visual performance a bit more and to get her vocal performance a bit more on the line – but once those are polished, I think it could get a good placing (it’ll all come down to what she’ll do on the jESC 2014 stage)

Russia will be the next country to get my opinion pretty soon. So, don’t miss it…
