jESC 2012: 12 The Netherlands – Femke – Tik tik tak

Hi,

It’s the conclusion of my opinion regarding the 12 competing entries from the 12 participating countries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012, which will be held in Amsterdam

The last country on discussion is the host country, one that has been participating in jESC since the begining in 2003 and who has finally won in 2009: The Netherlands

For this edition, The Netherlands has sent a retro modern R’n’B/soul flavoured pop entry called “Tik tik tak”, sung by Femke, who co-wrote the song with Anne Kees Meines (on both lyrics and music) and Tjeerd Oosterhuis (on music. He was also one of the co-writers and producers of the winning jESC 2009 entry, “Click-clack”, sung by Ralf Mackenbach). More about the singwe can be found on this page: http://www.junioreurovision.tv/page/participant-profile?song=28123

Now to the opinion of the song: a quite contemporary R’n’B/soul pop entry with a jESC touch (at the likes of several artists as Adele, Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Celeste Buckingham, etc…) and lyrics that describe the normal and joyful life of a young girl. Like with Rachel and “Teenager” in jESC 2011, I’ve grown to like it just after the NF (before that, my first impression was that Mainstreet should go to jESC 2012 with “Stop the time”. How wrong I was… once again) since it’s so catchy and effective. There are a few better songs in the jESC 2012, but “Tik tik tak” is one of the very good ones this year and it’s been considered recently as a favourite to win or to do pretty well in the final results (being the host country… and maybe to avenge the 11th place they had (with Lisa, Amy & Shelley‘s “Adem in, adem out”, when they hosted the jESC 2007). Knowing the NF performance was a bit disapointing vocally (although visually nice), I wonder what will happen in Amesterdam in terms of vocal and stage performance. Only time well tell

And that’s it. On Saturday, 1st December 2012, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will start, live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. May the best win (hoping that Russia and Israel will do well)

Thank you,
