jESC 2012: 01 Belarus – Egor Zheshko – A more-more

Hi,

In about a month and a half, the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will start (this will happen on Saturday, 1st December 2012 and it will be held in Amesterdam, presented by Kim Lian van der Meij and Ewout Genemans)

On Monday, 15th October 2012, the delegations from the 12 participating countries (by the way, it’s the lowest number of countries for a jESC edition ever at this point. The previous record was 13 back in 2009 and 2011) cames Amesterdam for, between other duties, the delivery of informations regarding and also for the running order in which the countries will get to perform

From this moment on, I’ll give my opinion on each of the 12 songs, starting with the country that will do the honours of getting the jESC 2012 started (my opinion could change, though, after the release of the jESC 2012 Official CD and the live performance in jESC 2012)

Belarus has sent a catchy retro jazzy entry that makes a tribute to the sea and the sun called “A more-more” (translated as “Oh, sea-sea”), sung by Egor Zheshko, who also did the lyrics and the music. He had the collaboration of Valery Shmat for the music as well. More about the biography of the participant in here: http://www.junioreurovision.tv/page/participant-profile?song=28073

Now to the opinion of the song: surely a nice and funny retro jazzy entry that gives me a flashback of the maltese entry of jESC 2008 (“Junior swing”, sung by Daniel Testa), eventhough the marriage of music and lyrics in here seems odd. There were better songs on this genre, though, mostly the two songs that Russia sent in jESC 2006 (“Vesenniy jazz” sung by the Tolmachevy twins) and in jESC 2010 (“Boy and girl”, sung by Liza Drozd & Sasha Lazin). For what I’ve seen in his NF performance, he seems to sing it well and the dancers give a nice touch to the visual performance. Will Belarus do well this year as well, after the 3rd place last year with Lidiya Zablotskaya and “Angely dobra”? Time will tell…

Sweden will be the next one, probably tomorrow. So watch out for it…

Thank you,
